. 244 Answers SOURCE: did you install the drivers? They were probably downloaded compressed- you need to look at your download list and install from there. Don't know if vista refers to it as install wizard, as xp does, but check that the download was actually opened and installed. Otherwise, it's sitting on your hdd doing nothing useful.

I'm not familiar with vista, know a lot of people who tried it and switched back to xp. Still waiting for the user reports for w7. Software update problem. Supposed to be a great improvement on vista! So we wait and watch! Anyway, check out whether your patch for your scanner actually was installed! Initial d street stage english version.

Posted on Sep 29, 2009. Do you have the 32-bit OS or the 64-bit OS? The Canon drivers will work in 32-bit Win7.

However, Canon doesn't support these scanners in the 64-bit OS. The only way to make the scanner work in the 64-bit OS is to run either a dual boot system or a virtual computer with a supported OS. The Vista x64 bit driver doesn't work even if you use the compatibility mode. If you have Win7 Ultimate, you can download Microsoft's Virtual PC and the XP mode for free. All other virtualization software options (Virtual PC, Parallels, VMWare) require a paid (licensed) version of the OS. Then install the scanner in the virtual computer and transfer files to external media to share it with the main computer. Dual boot systems have the same restriction of needing a valid OS.

I'm not aware of any Canon drivers for this scanner under UNIX. I wish that I could be of more help. Cindy Wells Sep 02, 2010.

QUICK ANSWER: use the original USB cable that came with the scanner. LONG EXPLANATION: Using Vista (32 bit version) and a Canon N670U scanner with the new drivers installed from the CanonUSA website. This driver is works for Canon scanners: LiDE 20, LiDE 30, N670U, N676U and N1240U, found at Canon says it doesn't support Vista 64 bit version. I couldn't get the scanner to work and kept getting the TWAIN error also, despite uninstalling / reinstalling the driver. Finally, decided to disconnect my 3rd party 16 foot USB cable and use the original cable.

I swear, it WORKED! I can't explain why, but it did. Perhaps there is increased resistance, hence reduced power going to the scanner by using longer/different USB cable? Anyhow, it worked.go figure. If you have the 64 bit version of Vista, I guess it won't work(?).

I too own a Lide 20 scanner. The drivers for the Lide 20 are NOT compatible with Windows 7 Home Edition; trust me I've tried everything. Different story if you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, and have set up a Virtual XP Mode Virtual Drive (see Microsoft web site for details and how to download the files you need). Then you can install the Lide 20 drivers as before, because you have XP Pro SP3 running in a virtual window.

Just be mindful that the XP Mode is 16 bit colour only, so you'll need to transfer scanned images to the Win 7 program for editing. If you only have Win 7 Home Edition it would be far cheaper to just buy an new scanner (one that has Win 7 Drivers). Hope this helps.

Anyone out there nerdy enough to try this, my 12 year-old daughter recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a discarded old PC (an old AMD 3000+) with 1 meg of RAM that has essentially been keeping the dust off part of the garage floor since 2005.that it booted up is in itself a miracle, but there's more. She managed to load Ubuntu alongside the Windows XP operating system (this requires another program) and then loaded a program called Wine which apparently lets you run Windows software on Ubuntu. She has since loaded a raft of Windows software, including software for her iPod. And guess what, she even got the Canon scanner working! Now I'm thinking if a 12 year-old can do this with a worthless old computer, why can' t Microsoft with their billions of dollars etc.? My daughter is available for consultations but only if she has competed her school homework!

As an experiment, I bought a cheap new hard drive for my HP Pavilion DV6519TX laptop (removing the original hard drive to preserve the Vista partition, AVP, and programs etc), and installed Ubuntu 10.04 onto it from a fresh distro disk. And when I plugged in the Lide20 scanner it worked fine. There is a generic applet for scanning that works universally on my Lide20, and on my Brother MFC-7440N and HP C7280 multifunction machines. SUGGESTION: At a pinch you should be able to boot up from a Ubuntu ISO CD (5 to 10 minutes), scan what you need, save it to a CD-RW or USB drive and then restart the PC back into glorious Windows 7. Your scanner ain't ever gonna work under Windows 7, but I reckon this is a cheap alternative that will allow you to keep your old hardware going a bit longer and stem the flow of old scanners ending up as landfill or appearing in 'ideal for students' ads. No need to toss a good scanner just because Uncle Bill and the team can't get their ducks in a row. Ubuntu just booted off a live cd will recognize a sound card, scanner, digital camera, however Windows 7 will not. But for You that still believe that Windows 7 is the greatest, well.
